CPSC Alert #08-566 Weil-McLain, in cooperation with the CPSC, has recalled certain models of their gas boilers due to a carbon monoxide hazard. Home inspectors that find these boilers should inform their clients of the potential hazard and advise homeowners to stop using the boilers immediately unless otherwise instructed by an HVAC professional.
Name of Product: Weil-McLain CGs and CGi Gas Boilers
Units: About 32,000
Manufacturer: Weil-McLain, of Michigan City, Ind.
Hazard: If there is a leak in the vent piping, the recalled boilers can leak carbon monoxide (CO) into the buildings in which they are installed, posing a risk of CO poisoning.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported.
Description: The recall involves cast iron, gas-fired boilers used for space heating. The following model names and serial numbers are included in the recall.
Models CGs-3, CGs-4, CGs-5, CGs-6 from serial# CP 5071501 through CP 5694976 Models CGi-3, CGi-5, CGi-6 Series 2 from serial # CP 4134351 through CP 5698635
The model name and serial number are located on separate labels on the outside of the left panel.
Sold by: Plumbing and heating wholesale distributors to plumbers and contractors nationwide from October 2001 through December 2007 for between $1,700 and $2,700.

Remedy: Consumers who have not already been contacted, should contact their installer for a free safety inspection and repair, if necessary.
