Judge OKs $600M settlement by shingle maker CertainTeed
A Philadelphia federal judge has granted preliminary approval of a $600 million class-action settlement to buyers of organic roofing shingles made by Pennsylvania-based CertainTeed Corp. The settlement is expected to resolve possibly tens of thousands of claims over allegedly faulty shingles sold under many brand names, including Hallmark Shangle, Independence Shangle, Horizon Shangle and Hearthstead. As with most class actions, the only winner here is the law firm.

Has anyone ever seen "A civil action" ? It gives a Hollywood view but there are some expenses to these actions. As the film shows and Jim said, the attys are after the lions share of the settlement. Millionaires in the making.

Remember the "Tobacco" lawsuits back in the 90's? The attorneys involved (right at 70 of them) are all now multi-millionaires with a few billionaires in the mix. The former AG of MS, was the brainchild. The kicker is that he was still if office as the AG, but his former firm was the lead firm for the lawsuits. He is now back in private practice and is now one of those multi-millionaires.
