I was at a house today, 33 year old, that had vinyl siding installed over metal siding (evident by the electric meter). What do you guys tell your clients when you encounter this?

Assuming that everything looks like it's in good shape and was well installed, I'd tell my client that it looks like they are well protected against moisture intrusion.
Can't say I've ever seen vinyl installed over metal...........

I have seen it before, but usually it is poorly installed (windows sunk in due to lack of clearance etc...). This time i wouldn't have even noticed except you could still see the metal behind the electric meter.

Water was following that communication wire on the right into the home and dripping inside the electrical panel! bzzzt!

I might wonder if the vinyl had a proper nail base and was properly installed.

The attachment would be my biggest concern, on the other hand, I see vinyl siding over asbestos-cement siding all the time !!

Like Brandon says, if it's installed well, I just tell folks "It's like having two overcoats on!"

It doesn't look like vinyl over metal to me. It looks like it had aluminum siding and it was removed except from behind the meter and then the meter box was replaced with a smaller unit, exposing some of the old siding.

Maybe it's the photo, but it looks like the metal and the vinyl are almost flush.
