They look what I would call a monarch or double monarch brick I think they are about 15" in length. I'm not 100% sure as I have only seen them a couple of times.

Brick, of course. I think it's that coating that threw me for a minute. That and it's not the typical brick application I am used to seeing. Did you like the "cracks" in that first pic?

Definitely brick. I would assume the mortar was poorly patched based on the overlay on the brick.
