If you are talking about the kind of kick plates I am thinking of they are not required. No picture of the threshold?

Sorry, no pics. This is just below the threshold plate (aluminum in this case).
Are you talking about the threshold overhanging the slab and the void that it creates? If so Yes, the threshold needs to be supported otherwise it will bend . Most of the time the builder sticks bricks or a 2x4 under it to provide support.
