Imbalanced Heat in a Four Story

4 levels with open stairwells? Just wait until summer. The effect will be the opposite. It will be plenty cool at the lower level and not cool enough upstairs.
Plain physics. I always explain this challenge to my clients in multi level homes that have open stairwells with no way to prevent the warmer air going up and the cooler air going down.
For the AC challenge in the summer, I like to at least see the registers on the ceiling of the top floor. That way the cool air passes by you on its way downstairs.
