Tom Breslawski
I'm looking for the year that WRB under vinyl siding became a part of the code. Any help? Thanks, Tom
Tom Raymond
2006. It was in siding manufacturer instructions prior though.
John Dirks Jr
My county, Anne Arundel was stuck on 2003 IRC until June of 2012 when they adopted the 2012 IRC. I wrote up lack if WRB (Tyvek) on a house built in 2011. The buyer backed out. The builder was pissed and demanded I change my report since the local AHJ approved the house. I asked the builder what the brand name of the siding was so that we could have a look at the installation instructions. After asking that, I never heard back from them. So yeah, always go with manufacturers installation instructions. Code actually stipulates that they should be followed anyway.
Tom Breslawski
Perfect, the house in question was built in 1998, no WRB. I wasn't concerned with code but my client asked and I wanted to get back to him. Thank you both!
Jim Baird
Have never seen vinyl without one. Have seen many hardi sided ones without.
Charlie R
Plenty of vinyl sided homes here with no vapor barrier, you pull the vinyl out at the end of a piece and all you see is OSB. Jamb the camera in and take a picture. Click to Enlarge 27.8 KB

Tom Raymond
Get the tool. They're cheap. Lots cheaper than breaking a piece of siding that hasn't been made in a decade.
Bill Kibbel
Don't need any tool, just peek behind at vertical seams.
