Darren
I did a split level home the other day with a partial slab on grade. The ducts for this section are run under the slab. After removing the register covers in this area, I found what I believe to be the round asbestos ducts (the official name slips my mind). It is clear there are friable areas (sections were cut to install the registers). My question is simple; What is the standard repair for under slab asbestos ducts? Can they be re-lined? Is removal the only option? Darren
Neal Lewis
Darren, My understanding is that the interior of the transite ducts can be sprayed with some type of coating to seal off the asbestos. I have seen estimates from asbestos mitigation companies for this type of work. If you need the name of a local reputable asbestos contractor, let me know. Darren
Neal; My golfing partner works for KF Mechanical (used to own Fritz & Sons). He says he heard of that, but has never seen it done. Yes, if you have a local contactor, please give me contact info. Thanks Darren
kurt
There is an encapsulant that is sprayed in the ducts; it looks very similar to the white latex admix that we put in tile grout.
