Bill Kibbel
That's disturbing! Limestone doesn't make for a good chimney cap.
hausdok
Certainly not very respectful of the dead. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
Jim Katen
So was there a body in the chimney?
John Kogel
Is that Hatfield-McCoy country by any chance? I can't imagine a builder doing that to just anybody's gravestone, but as a cruel joke, family feud, well maybe.
Brandon Whitmore
Assuming that was a gravestone at one time, that's extremely disrespectful.

charlieb
Has anyone considered the fact the stone could be the result of a carver's mistake? A simple misspelled word.
gtblum
Has anyone considered the fact the stone could be the result of a carver's mistake? A simple misspelled word. I did but, that was after I thought what Katen wrote. LOL! Check this out. It's in a cemetery near a school I worked on a few years ago. Erby
I'd bet it was a headstone with a mistake on it reused in another way. Notice, it's only half the stone.
emalernee
So was there a body in the chimney? No, just ashes.

Tim H
I'd bet it was a headstone with a mistake on it reused in another way. Notice, it's only half the stone. That could be the case, Erby. It looks like a double marker for husband and wife, where the last name was centered at the top, so it could have been split for any number of reasons. It also looks like a war era marker, but the 'CSA' would have been centered on the bottom. I hope you are right, and that Thomas' earthly remains are resting under a well tended marker. It's the least one should hope for. Tim
