Robert Jones
Home built in the early 1900's. This tank was in the attic cavity. Is this an old water tank? Home is heated with a newer boiler/radiant heat system. Click to Enlarge 65.71 KB
Mike Lamb
It's likely an expansion tanks from an old gravity boiler system. They were located as high up as feasible.
allseason
Yes, looks like and expansion tank. I grew up in a really old house ( orig. portion ca 1760) with one of these. The bottom rotted out and the tank was leaking into the attic. When enough water leaked out if came through the plaster and lath ceiling, sounded as if a bomb went off.
