Denray
Many of the older houses I look at have narrow stairways that end right at a door jam. Usually they have a gable roof with a dormer or two. Are these 90% of the time attic conversions or was there a building style like this at one time? allseason
Looks like and old cape. Likely there was an option when built to have no rooms, one room or two rooms in the attic/second floor. I have seen them with all three configurations and you will see the same style house throughout the block.
Jim Baird
We can see by the hinges and keeper that there was once a door. Heck, as a muni inspector in the mid Y2K's I saw this stupidity in brand new subdivisions. Builder always expected me to tell him what he could do to fix it. Denray
Here's one with the door still on. Very narrow. Head knocker on the top of the door opening. Click to Enlarge 50.08 KB
