Jim Katen 148
Who's the dude Jim, on the new avatar? Marc He's someone I admire. I'll leave it at that. For a forum full of sleuths, he shouldn't be difficult to identify. Of course, I've cropped out the artist's signature. That would be a give away. - Jim Katen, Oregon

I would have guessed you to be a Tesla fan though.
Jim Katen 148
. . . Tom Edison? I would have guessed you to be a Tesla fan though. . . Not Edison. This person would have been a few decades older. Now that you mention it, though, the picture does resemble Edison. - Jim Katen, Oregon
Bill Kibbel 79
I think Jim intentionally threw us off by implying that the image is of an actual person. I just discovered it's an artist's rendering of a fictional character. I've seen the character portrayed in a couple movies. He was played by Christopher Lee (Saruman, Tim Burton movies) and more recently by Stephen Fry (Blackadder, Top gear), who don't look anything like the avatar. The image is an illustration by Sidney Paget, who illustrated the original publication of Sir Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes series for a magazine in the UK. It's Mycroft Holmes, Sherlock's older brother.
Les 80
I always thought it was Henry Clay. Nice work Bill!
hausdok 20
I got snookered, The first time I saw that I said to myself, "Sherlock Holmes novel," and I spent some time on the net trying to find out a picture of Dr. Watson. I finally gave up, never imagining that it was someone else in a Doyle novel. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike

None of the movies does justice to the character, not even the excellent series that starred Jeremy Brett several years ago.
