Mark P
Can the age of a Weil-McLean boiler be found in this serial # CR 1294583. I'm 50/50 between 1994 or 1983. Click to Enlarge 55.62 KB
Neal Lewis
I'm not sure about the serial number. But, judging by the age of the expansion tank and a filltrol type fill valve and the lack of a backflow preventer, I would go with 1983. Did you get a look at the gas valve? Bill Kibbel
It should be a CP number that you can look up here: http://www.weil-mclain.com/en/weil-mcla ... cp-lookup/
Mark P
Oh CP number! It turns out to be 1986. That is a very usefull website. Thank you Mr. Bill
Neal Lewis
I had given up on the CP number method. The last dozen times I put in a number, it came back with no information.
Bill Kibbel
They have a relatively small group of CP numbers missing. I've called their toll free number when I get one not listed. If you see a lot of W/M boilers, you eventually get pretty good at guessing their age. You can also find dates on a couple boiler components. mjr6550
Since about the 1990s WM has been placing a small yellow label on the left side of the boiler. That label has the date on it. Otherwise, look at the gas valve, relief valve, circ. pump. fill valve, aquastat, etc. for dates. The CP lookup often works, but I know that for some reason at least one model they have made in the recent past is not included in the database. Tom Raymond
Does someone have a picture of the dates on a gas valve or TPR? I have yet to find them. I even just went and looked at my boiler and water heater. No dates.
mjr6550
Does someone have a picture of the dates on a gas valve or TPR? I have yet to find them. I even just went and looked at my boiler and water heater. No dates. Here are a few examples. The label on the boiler water feed valve looks the same at the PRV. On Conbraco PRVs the year is usually stamped into the round metal label on the top of the valve.
