Tim Maxwell
Yesterday I had an exterior main disconnect at the exterior by the meter. The 150 amp main was over 80" above grade. Would this be under the 240 section in NEC regarding the 6'-7" rule? I'm 5'-12" and I could reach it, but anyone much shorter would need a bucket or ladder to reach it. Erby
Sounds like it's an inch over. Probably due to soil settlement after construction. Tell them to throw down some more dirt and be done with it.

Jack Davenport
Here is the code section from the 2011 NEC 240.24 Location in or on Premises. (A) Accessibility. ghentjr
Yes, some of us did, and we also noticed that the exterior main disconnect was on the exterior.
Jim Baird
"...I'm 5'-12"..." Down here they just say six feet. Reminds me of what a plumber once told me, "Anything smaller than a quarter we just call a half." Should not that disco be contained inside "working clearance" that maxes out a six ft six? Marc
... Should not that disco be contained inside "working clearance" that maxes out a six ft six? Wouldn't that be putting the cart ahead of the horse? Clearances follow the enclosure, not vice versa. Marc
Jim Baird
I guess you could build a ramp or steps and landing to get there. ... Actually the height of working space is 6'6" OR the height of the equipment whichever is greater.
