Jerry Simon
Just saw the Modern Family episode where the dad shows Ferris Bueller how the dad can control the house lights, the fireplace, the TV, etc. with his I-Pad. Yesterday, the day I've been dreading; a thermostat that can be remote controlled with an I-phone. Took me five minutes to figure out how to manually get the system modes switched. Still waiting for call from homeowner on how I screwed-up the thermo settings. . . Already seeing TV ads about numerous other such I-phone/I-pad remote controlled house devices (deadbolt locks, garage door openers, yadda yadda). I remember when my worst technology fear was having my pen run out of ink while filling-in my checklist report. Sigh.
gtblum
I don't know where I ever got the idea I could turn away from my truck, click the remote at the door to my house, and expect it to unlock. Not just one time, either. Funny what conditioning can do. I want one.
kurt
Yeah. We've come a long way from X10 craziness. The lock thing still has a few issues, but it's almost there. Hard wire door locks are still the best, but wireless is going to make it sooner than later.
John Kogel
My 97 Ford F150 used to lock its own doors if I left the keys in the ignition. Standing there looking stupid cuz I ran back to get something. [:-weepn] How'd you like to be locked out of your own house cuz your iPhone's got a dead battery?
