John Dirks Jr
How common is it to smell gas leaks at propane storage tanks? When I opened the lid on an underground tank today it stunk pretty bad. The owned said he had it checked and was told the condition was normal and not to be concerned. John Kogel
The regulator gives off little puffs of propane from time to time. So it may have accumulated there in the inspection pit. We don't bury them here, so I don't know much about that.
rdhutch
I smelled gas around mine and suspected a leak. The gas company checked it and said everything was ok, that the smell will get stronger as the tank empties. I had a new tank put in a couple of years ago after some remodeling. Same thing, each time the tank gets low I can smell gas when I get near the tank. We don't bury them here either so I'm not sure of the affect there. Jim Baird
I kept smelling it around mine, and called the servicers, who confirmed a leak. They brought a replacement tank, as it was a rental, and I talked them out of 25 gallons as compensation. BTW, I conjugate "to stink", this way: I stink, I stank, I have (had) stunk.
