Chad Fabry
This sure looks like a globe valve. Are there any valves that looked like this that were approved for use on a gas line? Click to Enlarge 36.62 KB

Les
Does not look like a globe valve. sure seems like a common stem seat water valve. maybe a little on the robust side.
kurt
I find these occasionally on the older houses. Looks like a globe, but it's not. I hope someone knows the answer because I've always wondered about this.
Chad Fabry
I exercised the valve. When it came to the closed position it felt like a cushioned stop like a rubber-washer sealed throttling type valve. The stem travel was almost an inch. John Kogel
I see galvanized pipe on the right. Looks like water supply plummin to me. [] You exwercised it? Didn't know you were into exersism.
Jim Baird
...mix of galvy and black is funny too. I shy away from valve exergism out of exigency.
Denray
Seems like fittings only come as galvanized?
Chad Fabry
Seems like fittings only come as galvanized? They come in black.
Hearthman
Looks like a globe valve to me. See the radiused belly (which is at the top since this is hanging like a pendant)? Rising stem, soft seat, bonnet nut, not quarter turn--yep. Valves approved for gas must carry an outward stamp or listing mark: CSA, AGA, UL, etc. The current approval is ANSI Z21.15 Write it up.
