mlparham Posted August 24, 2015 Report Share Posted August 24, 2015 I can usually determine if the the siding is composite board or cement fiber by tapping on the siding. Sometimes if I am not sure I will dig into the bottom edge of a piece of siding in a protected area, such as a covered porch. If it is gray or brown you have composite board. If the bottom grey stripe is the siding, then it looks like cement board and it's not masonite. Mark up the pic to explain what we're looking at if possible.
