Whalen68
I have a new bathroom in an old (1889) Victorian on the second floor. Of course the hot water heater is a distance away in the basement. I get hot water but never enough and it takes too long. I am considering running a small tankless unit for this one room. Recommendations?

Jim Katen
Ditto, with a timer or motion sensor. Either that or dig up the RTG and place it near the water pipe . . .
Chad Fabry
RTG... another esoteric bit of knowledge every home inspector should possess- just in case they should encounter one.

Jim Katen
Marc, Your assignment is to go read "The Martian." Don't bother with the movie, it skipped over all the good stuff.
Marc
I think I got it already. I know how things flow on this forum.

mjr6550
Another option may be to insulate the water, tighten up the basement (air infiltration) and put a 5 gallon electric water heater near the bathroom in series with the hot water supply. dennispalmer
Installing small tank-less unit would also be the best option. It will help you get desired quantity of hot water without any delay.
Denray
Our house is 27 yrs old and has a loop. My dad installed the return and used the thinner wall copper. It's been springing up leaks. I think the constant flow with the different metal circulating pump is what is getting to it. I've just shut it off and now have to exist like a common man. 1st world problems. That small heater tank next to the sink till the hot gets there sounds good.
