Chris Bernhardt
Do you ever call out corroding joist hangers and rusting nails on connectors on decks? We had a Simpson rep at a few association meetings ago who reccomended nothing less then their Z-max connectors as the standard hangers and fasteners just can't stand up to the new PT wood. I would say thats probably a fact. Image Insert: 79.51 KB This was a 2002 deck Chris, Oregon
Scottpat
Yes. I started calling them out a couple of years ago after I saw a deck that collapsed due to rusted and corroded hangers.
Eric B
I will look for some ID on the lumber for ACQ info, then I check for the "Z" designation on the hangers. From what I understand, you can't make the distinctions without the tags or imprints Image Insert: 94.76 KB
Brandon Chew
Do you ever call out corroding joist hangers and rusting nails on connectors on decks? Absolutely! It's a serious life-safety issue that needs to be reported. Corrosion on the connectors or fasteners is an indication that they were not properly matched to each other, to the preservative in the wood, to the environment in which they are used, or a combination of all of these things. This became more of an issue once we moved away from CCA based wood preservatives during the early 2000s. Simpson puts out some good info on this, available here: http://www.strongtie.com/productuse/cor ... urce=hpnav
