Harbor Freight Recalls Halogen Work Lights

CPSC Alert #08-353

Harbor Freight Tools, in cooperation with the CPSC, has voluntarily recalled about 58,000 halogen work light sets due to a fire/shock hazard. Inspectors using these lights should immediately stop using them and contact Harbor Freight Tools for a full refund.

Name of Product: Chicago Electric Halogen Work Lights

Distributor: Harbor Freight Tools, of Camarillo, Calif.

Hazard: The halogen work lights can overheat and melt, and pose a risk of fire and electrical shock to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: There have been three reports of incidents in which the recalled halogen work lights overheated and melted. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The halogen work lights are 500 watts. Model number 30858 is included in this recall. The lamp measures 7 inches wide x 5 ½ inches high and is mounted on a yellow frame. “UL Listed E163392â€

The headline should read: Harbor Freight recalls every product they've ever sold and issues apologies and refunds to the folks they've duped.

I walked into a Harbor Freight a few years ago and was astounded by how every shelf was filled with cheap yuck. I walked out empty handed and haven't been back.
