Inspectorjoe
Does anyone know what this blue stuff on the coil is? It's like a thin coat of paint. I don't have a closeup picture. It's a Carrier and the data plate is missing, but it looks to be a good 20 years old. Being A/C only, it was way too cold today to operate the system. The outside unit was wrapped in a tarp. The buyer said it wasn't covered when he saw it a week ago. I normally don't uncover them, but that made me a bit suspicious. energy star
it was an anti corrosive spray that was sold.
Bill Kibbel
It's for units exposed to salty ocean air and acidic environments. I see them on industrial systems and it's standard on some residential split-ductless systems. It's surprising to see it on that installation (although a crappy application). Maybe they had a problem with the dog peein' on it.
Inspectorjoe
I don't think it was applied because of a dog, because the fins weren't corroded or deteriorated at all. Thanks guys.
Terence McCann
I've seen quite a few condensing units that the owners dog(s) have turned into a hydrant. The urine will strip away the fins leaving bare copper tubing behind. Amazing how corrosive urine is to the aluminum fins.
