blazenut
What is the name of this sheathing? I assume it is some type of fire retardant sheathing since it was on both sides of townhouse (waferboard in middle). hausdok
How about an explanation of the shot to get us oriented? It looks like the underside of a roof deck but it's hard to tell without an establishing shot. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
Neal Lewis
It looks like a gypsum board, but I don't know what the name is.
Steven Hockstein
Try this for gypsum board/roof sheathing info: http://www.gypsum.org/pdf/GA-276-05.pdf Unless you know the manufacturer you should use the generic name.

Yeah, I thought so too but I'd still like more info. We see whole condos built out here with gypsum board incorporated into exterior cladding and roofs as a means to control flame spread. Darren
It's hard to tell from the photo, but I see no evidence of that gyp board being mounted on the inside of the truss; it almost looks like it's installed in place of the OSB; is that correct? John Ghent
The photo looks like it is adjacent to a party wall in a condo unit and it may have been installed as part of the fire retardation concept. Most of the condo party walls are fire rated rock and this just reduces the burn area next to the wall. Just a guess.

The gyp board is installed on top of the trusses and the structural sheathing on top of that. The trusses that are installed within 4' of the area separation walls are 5/8" shorter than the others to allow for the thickness of the gyp board. blazenut
It was a condo, middle of a row. It had block common walls, one sheet of this black "sheathing" against each common wall, and the rest was waferboard.
