schooner
Good day everyone, I had this questions posted under Roofing, guess I have this forum thing figured out. Wish wiring was that easy. Not sure if anyone knows where to get a Gauge tester, other than Professional Instruments?
Scottpat
Good day everyone, I had this questions posted under Roofing, guess I have this forum thing figured out. Wish wiring was that easy. Not sure if anyone knows where to get a Gauge tester, other than Professional Instruments? I made my own many years back when I started my inspection business. I acquired 4" to 6" sections of various gauges of wire and attached one end to a piece of wood that I had drilled holes in. I have long lost it, but I only used it for a few months. After awhile you can see a wire and know its size
schooner
Thank you Scott, I went out to a local Electrical supply shop today and was given samples from 14 - 2awg. This will help me out with determining the correct wire guage to fuse/breaker. Again, Thank's Rod Howes
Jim Port
Older insulations had a different thickness than todays insulations. Do not get misled by this, look at the conductor ends.
schooner
Thank's Jim, I'll keep this in mind. I wrote this up the attached pictures as get a licensed electrician in for repair/upgrade, with a few other choice words. Main/service and 2 sub panels. Looks like a feed from the service panel to the sub's was unprotected.(sorry for the picture quality). Would like feed back. Also water penatration into the main. msteger
I went to Home Depot and bought 12" of each size. I took a measurement of each size's diameter and saved it in my computer. If ever in doubt, measure the wire in question with a little plastic ruler and check your data table. Works well.
