Thanks for the response. I would say that the entire thing is falling apart. Every part of it, including the inside panels, just peel off when you touch them. We have been in the house 30 years and the fireplace was here when we purchased the house. Thanks, hmk

I have an old prefab fireplace in my den. The prefab elements are starting to disintegrate. Does anyone know if this fireplace contains asbestos? Thanks, hmk
