Ok, so I have to admit I have no idea what this receptacle is/was used for. The house was built in 1940 and there were about 4-5 of these outlets throughout the house (one in the kitchen/nook). All were within about 12"-16" of a standard 2 prong outlet. No power to them (currently). Electrical had been somewhat upgraded in the house with an addition added on. New panel - still mostly an ungrounded system. You may not be able to see in the picture, but there is a stamp on the receptacle that reads "Aerial Ground"? Please help me identify this....
