    Chip, Look inside the compressor (outside unit). A heat pump will have a visible reversing valve that will look like a solenoide with refrigerant piped into and out of it and conducors that control direction.

    Can anyone ot there tell me how they inspect/operate a dual fuel heat pump heating system. This system uses a gas or propane forced air furnace as aux. heat and is typically set at a specified "cut in" temperature. How to by pass this to test/inspect the furncae (aux. heat). Thanks, Jeff
