    To answer Jim of Oregon's Question, the reason is that without any ventilation under the roof deck, the shingles bake and crystallized. Much like laying on the black tarmac on a hot day as apposed to laying on a lawn chair with air flowing under you. Tom

    In regards to the question of what about the shingles when the iceneing foam is applied directly to the bottom of the roof deck. There is only one shingle manufactor in the entire US that will offer any warrenty, that in itself must tell you something. After 40 years of building, I highly recommend having a 1" airspace under the roof deck which is easily done by using the Corwin smart ventilation system. Can be used even in a retrofit.     [in regards to Icynene and shingles, there is a reason that only one shingle manufacture in the entire USA will give any warrenty to shingles installed of non-vented Icynene. Write for brochure. Tomceejay@aol.com

    The way to eliminate ice dams completly is the use of the Corwin Smart Ventilation System. This system can be installed in existing homes by way of the attic. I works! Keeps heat in in the winter and out in the summer. This is a new product and again it works see the attached file.
