Georgia Governor Vetoes Home Inspector Legislation
Raymond Wand replied to hausdok's topic in News Around The Net
Worth repeating! -
This may be of interest to non aligned home inspectors in Canada. http://www.nachi.org/forum/attachment.p ... 1205900126 Dear fellow Canadian Professional Home Inspectors: In late 2000, as part of the CHIBO National Initiative, about a dozen well respected and experienced inspectors from across Canada met in Toronto for a full week of meetings to determine exactly what Home Inspectors do when they perform a Home Inspection. What they were trying to establish could be called our ââ¬ËJob Description? The results of this marathon meeting became known as the National Occupational Standards for Home and Property Inspectors. (NOS) These standards were studied and eventually ratified and adopted by CHIBO and the CAHPI Steering Committee in 2001. Besides being a job description, the NOS also provided a blueprint for future decisions that would be made by almost all of the committees and councils that have been created as part of the National Certification Program. The NOS are the foundation upon which the entire program is built. Since rules, regulations, techniques and industry standards are subject to change, it was decided that the NOS would be reviewed about every five years to ensure they mirrored actual inspection functions and criteria. In February of this year, a select group of volunteers from across the country met to review the current NOS and suggest changes and improvements. The results of their efforts are reflected in the attached NOS Task Validation Survey, which we are attempting to get into the hands of as many Canadian practitioners as possible. We ask that you complete it and fax, e-mail, or mail it to the consultants before May 15, 2008. Their contact information is on the survey. This is an opportunity for all Canadian Professional Home Inspectors, regardless of association or lack thereof, to have some input into our futures. Once the results of the survey are compiled, the new, updated NOS will be circulated. Thanks in advance for your help. The Licensing Forum
Raymond Wand replied to hausdok's topic in Home Inspection Licensing and Pending/Legislation
Mike, It's your opinion that I am upset with that other association, the fact is I am not. If you were up on the facts you would know that the concerns are with one association up here which was created under statute which is obligated to follow its charter and its bylaws which it is not. Thus my concern and others with regard to proper and a legal duty to ensure to the members and the public things are on the up and up. This cannot be assured under self regulation. It has not worked up here since 1994 and continues to flounder under the current regime. Your comparison to alcohol addiction is your need to justify your post. I can assure you that if I wanted to remain addicted I could quickly and easily sign onto that forum under an assumed name. I don't need you telling me whats best for me, I have been in this biz since 1991 and am very familiar with how the associations I belong to operate. As mentioned licencing is the only way to solve the "self aggrandizing" which you coined. The only reason I can think of why some are so damning about licencing is because it will disrupt their fiefdom, and need to control a populace of lemmings while lining their pockets. Thats my real beef, not my departure from the Nacho stand. Thanks for the advice, but if you want to practice psychology you need a licence. -

Its variable whether licencing makes for good inspector or whether its even good for the public, but what about associations who have no outside scrutiny, and report to themselves? Who ensures these many inspection associations are on the up and up? Who protects the inspectors from over zealous, unscrupulous administration or that they actually are dealing fairly with consumer complaints -
You will be happy to learn that as of tonite at approximately 8:30 pm est the infamous Nick Gromicko has had all my posts pulled along with one other former member, and has blocked my access. Well so much for the defence of free speech and right to access as so often claimed by the great leader! Guess Nick and posse don't like being questioned by those who recognize what goes on.

Consult with an licenced furnace technician. Sounds like a seal may have failed allowing condensate to leak into the vacuum tube.

Lewis said: Wanna make a bet? A few others have left or will be leaving as a result. As I said before I walked away from Nachi and then went back with eyes wide open. Never paid for my membership either. This time I am gone for good. I am also a RHI and former member of ASHI. I have been around and now seeing the irrelevance of memberships. Cheers,

I was just removed from NACHI for posting a private email from Joe Farsetta that was not sent through the Nachi messaging system! I did not remove it (I refused to as he made false allegations) and was sacked by what can only be termed a corrupt ESOP committee. They tried to tell me I breached COE 3.3 which has nothing to do with posting a private email but only deals with ethics as it relates to inspections. Then they tried to tell me I breached the forum rules, which I didn't because there is no provision in it for posting private messages! It was a conspiracy to put it bluntly and done without the full ESOP committees knowledge. I never paid for membership for several years (they had out free memberships and CMI). Then last fall I paid and found out again that free memberships were still being handed out. I asked for my money back and got it and remained a member until I peeved the ESOP and Nick. No one has ever seen any bylaws or policy manuals, they just don't exist! Rules are made on the fly and you had better not ruffle feathers of certain individuals. These people have no concept of due process and when asked for explanation they dance around as all being and all knowing. They are nothing but a bunch of con artists who like to abuse their positions and throw their weight around. My opinion is stay away from Nachi or remain a non member and use their discussion board. Canada About To Move Ahead With HI Certification
Raymond Wand replied to hausdok's topic in News Around The Net
Ontario Press Council http://www.ontpress.com/about/index.asp A newspaper publishing an unsolicited opinion article should go beyond simply determining that it is not libellous; it should he prepared to accept responsibility jointly with the author for factual errors. For the record, here is how the article was printed in the London Free Press. Unedited and in full. I can read just as anyone else, and it says what it says. Raymond Wand Alton, ON -

Sorry I have to disagree. And it appears you cannot provide the documentation to back up the fact this has not been ratified. I am still waiting for the documents to provide that the government is correct. That is less than democratic and perhaps you should not shrug off that fact as you too are a member. Of course OAHI does not follow the by-laws now so why should they start this late in the game? The London Free Press is factually incorrect. If you cannot agree that it is that is unfortunate. It remains uncorrected and I have sent a letter for clarification to the Minister responsible for this program to seek clarification. Further anyone in OAHI which makes up the lions share who is not an RHI will most likely not run out and get certified because the certification has less meaning than RHI. Without other members from Nachi, and ASHI and other non aligned members in Canada it boils down to numbers. To state that 5,000 members repeatedly will be certified and that it will all be done by 2007 is a pipe dream. This appears to be another body plying another irrelevent meaningless certification on inspectors who already meet the standard in Oahi because they already have their Registered Home Inspector (RHI) designation. This is home inspectors overseeing home inspectors again, self regulation reincarnated. Self regulation has not worked for OAHI in over 10 years and for anyone to think CAHPI will be is questionable. CAHPI has no capacity to discipline anyone, it has to send the complaint back to the provincial association for (i.e. OAHI) for action. If one does not have to be a member of CAHPI to become certified how does CAHPI plan on enforcing the ethics and the SOP, and other measures CAHPI imposes. It would mean non aligned inspectors would be responsible to no one. I just wish that the info was consistent and objective. None of this is carved in stone and none of it has been ratified by the members at large of CAHPI-Ontario. At this point it is a model to be adopted. Raymond Wand Alton, ON -

Those government numbers are high. I believe them to be in error. I am sorry, the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors has not ratified anything to my knowledge. You have people serving on the CAHPI board who were appointed by the BOD of OAHI to serve. Those appointees were appointed not elected. The BOD of OAHI has no business ratifying anything without full knowledge and input of the membership. If this is not true, please point me to the documents or provide them where this has been ratified. Also please note the article which appeared in the London Free Press was misleading and misquoted. In the published article it stated "all" inspectors would be certified by 2007. And all would be under the umbrella of CAHPI. Those statements remain uncorrected. They are very misleading. Not everyone is going to run out and get certified, those that are students, applicants and associates within OAHI will most certainly not be running out to be certified especially given OAHI has a higher standard and is legislated as self regulating. Without adequate numbers being certified this proram will most likely carry little weight or signifigance. And it remains to be seen how many will be certified by 2007. Thank you. Please note. This program is not mandatory, it is voluntary. The numbers being quoted are high. None of this has been ratified by the membership of the provincial associations which make up CAHPI. Not everyone will want to be certified because no one knows how it will affect their business. To suggest there will be 5,000 is grossly mistating reality. Raymond Wand Alton, ON
