  1. Got a picture? If it "looks" more than 10 years old, it needs replacing, especially if it has no pan and pipe. I can guess the age of most all units used in this area within a few years just by looking at the placards and labels on the unit.
  2. I have two electric ones in series. The first one stays off unless we have company. It serves as a storage tank when off that gains some heat from the garage to warm up the cold well water, especially in the summer. I see no use for parallel operation, cold water entering both tanks as the hot is used makes no sense at all for residential.
  3. Any house that needs a 3 ton A/C should not be using electric strips for heat, too expensive to operate. Make sure the client knows this. The only "electric heat strip only" heaters I see are in little condos or houses less than 1000 sf.
  4. Looks like a cheap dishwasher and needs the high loop. The more expensive ones have the high loop already built in.
  5. A neighbor hit underground cables with a trackhoe and killed a transformer about 7 years ago. He never did say how much it cost him. I am guessing several thousand. Power was out for over a day. This would have been a more direct short than just some worn SE cables rubbing together but there is always the chance of the cables arc welding togther and drawing max current until the transformer winding opens.
