I went to my own water heater and it has the manual with it. It does in fact say 5' off the floor. But WHY?? [:-banghead]

I wonder why the 5' off the floor requirement. Just for convenience? If there's a gas fire going on, I imagine there's bigger worries than the valve being 5' off the floor. [:-bigeyes2] Just curious. I always have to ask why... [:-irked]

As a side note to this... I had a phone conversation with a local roofer the other day regarding roof pitch for wood roof coverings. His statement was that wood shakes (and shingles too, I suppose) CAN be applied to a roof pitch of less than 4/12, but you'd need to use ice and water shield on the entire roof to do it. Is this consistent with what you've heard?
