  1. That corrosion is why after the pipes cool off from plumbing it, you wipe them with a wet rag to clean off excess flux.
  2. Trying to determine a new siding for a house built in 1880 with structural brick exterior walls 3 layers thick.... Can a Portland based stucco be applied over the soft brick? There's very few houses this age left around here and even less are brick and I'm having hard time finding this information but have found many companies in New England area that stucco over 1800's houses with brick walls with Portland stucco... I've done a lot of it over concrete block with a scratch and brown coat then final stucco such as Arcusstone.. Brick is currently painted and assuming I need to try and remove first but do I need to repoint before stuccoing? Thanks for any help I may receive. Inside of brick walls appear to be a harder stucco applied directly over brick
  3. A guy had a slab porch poured in front and behind his house, vocered up all the vents on a 1875 house, the house had no moisture problems beneath it until 6 years after the slabs covered the vents, I had to vent the crawlspace after replacing all the wood work beneath the house on a job a while back. Also, on mobile homes (experience from a mobile home park... sigh) unvented trailer houses will fair better on the wood because of the under webbing, but the 1/4 inch thick I beams will be about 1/8th inch in aobut 25 years (after you knock off the loose rust) from the older models we've had moved out. This is just my past experiences. PS: Mold likes dark humid areas But I also found this... Matt
  4. There is only 2 shingles on edges, they stripped them over the eves but left the rest I've heard a rule of thumb is every layer is a half life, is this a common theory? Assuming they were 30 year shingles... 1-30 2-15 3-10 4-5 Maybe I some how miscounted and theres 4 layers, but there is about 2 inches of shingles at cut-outs for the turbine vents in the attic. Still yet, I could have sworn there was 8 layers, as odd as it would be, I'll look one day if I get the chance, I know the owner. Matt
  5. 3" 12 guage 8 shot. Problem solved. Assuming its a red headed woodpecker, shoot it and leave it on ground for a week then dispose of. If they are anythign like crows, they wont come near their own dead. But seriously, shoot the sucker. You could always break some flashing to fit the trim and sheetmetal the walls =)
  6. Hmmm.... I think I could invest some money for something to protect me and my family. Thanks for the response I got to say though, you sounded a little Inspectorphobic with that last line.. lol just kidding
  7. Trying to draw up a contract to have a lawyer look over. Need a line about how the report, findings, discussions, etc is between me and client and is not to be re-used, sold, or any other third party ordeals... If I cant get soemthign figured out, I'll jst explain to him what I need then. Thanks, as always, any comments are welcomed. Matt
