    Bad choice

    I found it at https://www.inspectorsjournal.com/forum ... all%29.jpg
  3. Ah,, Well that I definitely can understand.[:-cry][:-cry]
  4. Hi Chris, Yeah I guess I can remember when it was harder to read from the screen. I guess I got use to it after many years. I can definitely understand Mikes dilemma. Hey Phillip, Is there any particular reason you are still on dialup? I was wondering since, it took me all of 8 seconds to download the 273 page Moisture Handbook and 4 hours on a 22MB file no longer sits with me very well. I remember those days. Arrrgh! [:-crazy]
  5. Not sure why you would want to print it out when you can just read it from your computer.
  6. I am in the process of writing my own and will be running it on my own server I built a few weeks ago. For simple web pages you just need to learn HTML and if you want to get fancy with a similar look and feel throughout your site, which will be easy to change, then the use of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a good way to go. If you are looking to add form processing then that is where it will get a little more tricky. You will need to learn Perl, PHP, ASP, JSP, Java, C++ or another one of the many server pages, scripting or programming languages out there.
  7. I build all my computers but I get the parts from various places. I use pricewatch.com to get low prices available at the time for hardware. If I build a Windows box then I look for an OEM version of the OS other wise if I build a server I usually use Linux Fedora Core which is free.
  8. I'm not sure about intermixing dissimilar metals in gas piping, but as I was looking around I found this interesting writeup on using copper for gas lines. http://www.copper.org/applications/fuel ... intro.html This site has a lot of info on using copper for gas supply. http://www.copper.org/applications/fuel ... fig03.html Show proper connections from steel to copper.
  9. Ah, thank you Kevin; I will check it out.
  10. Hi Randy Several sites pop up on a Google search. Here are two; http://www.plumbingstore.com/pipehangers.html http://plumbing.hardwarestore.com/52-34 ... ngers.aspx No; actually I never heard of plastic plumbers tape. Are you referring to Teflon tape? The stuff used on pipe threads? You may be correct on the metal straps. I was more concerned about the pipe being properly supported. [:-magnify
  11. Hello Terence, I am not a member of ASHI at this time, however I do plan on joining. You have my curiosity. What does the nifty Radon check list comprise of; or is that for "ASHI only" eye's?[:-bigeyes Maybe I will need to wait until I join.[:-cry]
  12. Hi Randy, Actually there are hangers designed for PVC. One could also use the plastic or metal strapping to secure the PVC. You are correct; The use of NM cable was done poorly, and with time, may pull loose of the staples that were used to secure it. This is something I would expect from a home owner, but a radon mitigation company?
  13. I was admiring this radon mitigation device as it passes through the attic and almost missed the method of support. romex pipe support 1, romex pipe support 2. I think that'll hold her.[^] To think this was installed by a radon mitigation company that must have run out of strapping.
  14. Isn't the spelling Weimaraner and not Weimeraner[?] Anyhow, John, excellent marketing. I was thinking along the same lines; just without the dogs.[]
  15. It looks like the service drop in within some kind of conduit or encasement; Or is that just an optical illusion?
  16. Hello Craig, Brandon was just referring to such a button in Inspect Express. The CPSC web site is that database. I use it in just that manor. I start with punching in model and/or serial numbers. If that has no hits, I will still search on make or brand to see if there are any general recalls pertaining to multiple brands. Sometimes the models and/or serial number's relating to recalls are on the manufactures web site. If so there will be a link from the CPSC data page.
  17. Hello Fritz, You can do advanced searches on the Consumer Product Safety Commission's web site: http://search.cpsc.gov/?col=pubweb&ht=0 ... &lk=1&rf=0 Use the "for documents that [must contain]" option. and search on key words like, Brand or Model. i.e. Weil McLain You should get hits on recalls pertaining to or related to Weil-McLain products.
  18. Main Entry: ed·i·to·ri·al·ize Pronunciation: "e-d&-'tor-E-&-"lIz Function: intransitive verb Inflected Form(s): -ized; -iz·ing 1 : to express an opinion in the form of an editorial 2 : to introduce opinion into the reporting of facts 3 : to express an opinion (as on a controversial issue)
  19. Glad I live on the other side of the Country.[:-bigeyes
  20. Actually Brandon. If you are familiar with visual basic you can code your own button to do just that from MS Word within IX.
  21. Now thats funny![:-slaphap I can always have my son rebuilt it for you. He's blown his out of the water so many times I had to show him how to fix it for himself. No more problems[:-graduat after the forth rebuild he did. Once you start solving your own problems you get a deeper respect for the way things work. All the teachers go to him now for technical help. Anyway, in IE7, if you are on a page that has an RSS feed the RSS icon with light up. If you click on it you can subscribe to the feed. It is pretty simple.
  22. Hey Mike, Well, if you have any questions or need assistance in setting something like that up I would be more than happy to help. What email client do you use? Also RSS feeds can be fed to Mozilla and IE. If I remember you are an IE user. Just search for RSS in the help contents for IE. In fact, TIJ has an RSS feed for News and Events.
  23. I think that is doable. Just subscribe to the RSS feed (if you use an email program like Thunderbird) then you can keep the data which you feel is important. This data is stored in your newsgroup folder and is searchable. In Thunderbird I can even export these feeds to html or text files for searching. I think there are add-ons for Outlook for RSS if that is what you use.
  24. Wouldn't it be easier to record the appliance model # SN then do a search on CPSC rather than leaf through papers manually? I also subscribe to the latest CPSC recalls via an RSS feed (similar to newsgroups). This helps me to know what is recent and I can save pertinent recalls to my drive.

    Vent?

Hi Frank, According to the Residential Building Inspector this (the trap and vent) is required on all new residential construction. I did not get into specifics as to when they started doing this but the two houses I came across are from the early 1990's. Not sure how far back it goes. I am not sure where they get this code from but I intend to talk to the plumbing inspector in my town to see if he can shed some light on it.
