  1. I think the post above referring to Joseph A. Ferry, Esquire may only apply to members of NACHI. That is who I'm insured through as a member of NACI. If you not already a member of an national organization (ASHI, NACHI, NAHI...) I would recommend that you join one before finding a policy. I saved at least five or six hundred dollars because of my NACHI membership!!! Good Luck
  2. Hello I've been receiving recall notices from the CPSC for a couple of years now and entering the data into a mySQL database. My original intent was to cross reference serial numbers of major appliances against the database to find any matches. The problem I am finding is the data published by the CPSC is sometimes very vague (particularly the serial number information). So for now, this project is on hold. My question is, do any of you include a disclaimer in your reports or pre-inspection agreements stating that you will not be held responsible for recalled items? I recently read a string of comments on an internet forum (I don't remember where) where a customer was trying hold a Home Inspector responsible for recalled appliances in her new home. The general response of those who replied seemed to agree with the customer!
  3. Surprised anyone didn't mention Adobe Acrobat. I use it for every report I write. I also password protect all reports so know one can change what I say.
  4. Thanks Mike I was not aware that RSS feeds generate their own .class_selectors! This will give me much better styling hooks. Also, I had to change my design to include the TIJ feeds. For some reason they spilled out of the #mainContent and into the sidebar. Can you think of a reason for this? The link below is how all of my other feed pages look Thanks http://www.interspecllc.com/this_old_ho ... n-xml.html
  5. Hello Fellow Home Inspectors I've recently "finished" my new website which includes several pages that display RSS feeds (the home inspection news page is generated from the TIJ news feeds). The reason behind this of course is the fact that most of theses feeds change on a daily basis and we all know that changing content is a good thing for SEO. The site however is still returning a Google Page Rank of 0 because it has not been fully indexed yet. I definitely do not consider myself an SEO guru, but I am willing to try whatever it takes to improve my rankings. The process of adding these feeds is relatively simple. All the code is generated directly from my hosting company and cut and pasted into the source code. If anyone is interested adding RSS code to their site there is a vast amount of info on the web. Be advised however, some knowledge of HTML and CSS is required to do it. A link is included below to view these pages. My personal feeling on websites is that they are the most important marketing tool that we have as home inspectors. For that reason I feel that we should devote more time and effort to the subject on this forum. I will monitor these feeds (via Google Webmaster Tools) in the future and report back on any pros and cons they may have on my SEO efforts. Also, I have reluctantly chosen to add a "Industry Links" page to the site. If anyone would like to share links please contact me. I typically don't like this sort of linking but allot of research on the subject has convinced me that more links equal more hits on the site. A link to this page is listed below. All criticisms are welcome. http://www.interspecllc.com http://www.interspecllc.com/this_old_ho ... n-xml.html http://www.interspecllc.com/industry-links.html Thank You Roy Baake Interspec,LLC Email Me
  6. That was my biggest fear, there just not sturdy enough for me. So I dug deep into my pockets and paid $475 on ebay for a Little Giant 26. Best purchase I've made in along time! Yea, it's expensive and it's heavy (53 lbs) but when I'm twenty feet off the ground, I dont seem to care about any of that...and it fits into my SUV. I also keep a smaller version that I use inside houses for everything else. It's alot of money for ladders, but like everybody else whose reading this, I use them everyday!
  7. Any have a problem with a water heater in an attic in the NE USA? Had another inspector tell me I should have recommended moving the unit as the temperture in the attic in the winter gets very cold. It would be a big job in this house!
