Todays Toronto Star column by Steve Maxwell, a Canadian home building and renovation guru, takes a swipe at the questionable qualifications of alleged "certified" home inspectors and inspection "cowboys" with unverified credentials. Maxwell urges Canadian consumers to trust only inspectors that have been vetted by the Canadian national certification program for home inspectors.

"By comparison, how much faith should you put in a home inspector with a "certification" they received through self-administered tests taken on the Internet and optional courses taken if and when they like? That's the reality behind some professionals in the home inspection business these days. Watch out. Ask questions. Who has actually verified these people?"

I have no idea what he is talking about.
