  1. I worked in a Chemical distillation plant once, it was a new design, and all the very high pressure relief valves were tied into the very low pressure relief valves on some control system, with predictable results when the high pressure side lifted once.
  2. at 45 my urologist stuck a camera in my bladder.......that was a little uncomfortable. the alternative, having unfixable colon cancer is far far worse than a 1 hr visit to the dr
  3. why is stucco used? cheap choice by the builder, or a style thing? seems in my limited view that stucco failes over anything except concrete? its always "well this new type stucco is problem free, or this new installation method is problem free. why do people use stucco?
  4. looks good- I wonder if the soap / chemicals for hand washing affects the flush mechanism much, some do. - Off topic, but travelling in the "middle east" many even public places like museums, dont have t p so carry your own
  5. common in turkey on pit toilets to have a water tap near the throne, probably to clean your hand. ugh.
  6. Maybe its a ford vs chevy question but something must be better than wax rings for the toilet flange. yes I know wax rings can work fine IF ........ a lot of conditions are met, sorta (my opinion) like wood siding (compared to Hardie) is great IF... primed on all side, no cracks ,,,,,,,, inspectors probably see the toilet failures (rot, water) and maybe not whats causing it since the seal is hidden) non wax ring choices seem to be 1. fernco coupling, and 2. fluidmaster both of which require the device to glue onto the toilet outlet horn area and 3. sani seal, which sounds new to me but looks like the answer. any opinions?
  7. in south carolina it was frequently placed in master bedroom closets, til it moved to on the stairs to second floor, then moved to the attached garage every 10 years or so it changed

  11. 1984 ish cutler hammer ch7 JJ for house main breaker the a/c compressor 3 1/2 ton and strip heat boxes are pull out disconnects mounted near the outside unit of course.. also have a 2 ton upstair split system , outside condenser has a pull out disconnect too. I could be happy with just protecting those hvac units as they are the big money
  12. I think there are some that install in the hvac breker box but they were not interested in installing thos eeither
  13. in my part of south carolina there are almost no whole house surge protectors used. I tried to talk my trane dealer into installing one on the circuit of my two new expensive hvac systems , or on the main breaker box but he would not do it. whats up? do they not work, or are they too troublesome. in some parts of the country the power companies seem to install them but here in coastal south carolina, south carolina electric and gas does not
  14. would use of pressure treated wood for all crawl space facing wood (subfloor etc) solve the problem or would the mold just be on top of the pt wood?
  15. I'm new here. so maybe a dumb question. in the debate over sealed vs non sealed crawl spaces has there ever been a study done by an independent organization- that is, some organization that is not selling services of "pushing technology". I used to do a lot of confined space inspections on ships and the test equipment we used to test for hazardous gases and safe atmospheres had to be certified by an independent 3rd party government agency (NIOSH if I remember correctly). NIOSH only tested stuff they were not selling anything. you could not legally trust the manufactureres claims (or magazine ads). Has any independent agency done such a study of pros vs cons on sealed crawl spaces. If non sealed works, even not well, I'd probably stay with it less there was good evidence that a new approach was really safe.
  16. Possibly off topic, and I admit I watch too much HGTV international but whatever caused the european practice of taking the kitchen appliances (and in many cases the cabinets too)with you when you move? whats that about? I see that a lot on the shows. even in new rennovations, the kitchen is stripped. If its a european thing, what kept it from getting started in the US? to me when moving maybe take the refrigerator but pull out the cabinets? never same with the usually old dishwasher etc. anyone have any "idee" as we say in the South?
  17. they were driving the fastners almost all the way thru hardie planks
  18. why did the house sell for 27,00 in 2010?
  19. true. I stopped a condo residing on the first wall, when they were doing the same thing. The 'workers whose first language is not english" doing the work claimed they were unaware that there was An adjustment on the air compressor!?!?
