  1. I so want a termite dog!!!! Could you imagine the ad campaign! I would be rich! When I owned my painting company, I was going to buy a chimp, dress him up in white overalls, put a paint pot in one hand and a Wooster in the other... Genius.. The painting monkey!!! People would be beating down my door to have their home painted by the painting monkey. The sad thing is he would probably do better work than half the idiots around here. Genius!!!
  2. It's SO nice to know That I'm not the only one up until 2 am, every night working on reports. although in my area, I think I am the only one. After getting ahold of a couple of "other guy's" reports, I can see how.
  3. Yes but what I'm saying is if the Breakers are not labeled, I wont know which goes to what. If the A/C is MBF 40 amps and is ran to a 60 amp breaker, I wouldn't know unless I traced it. I know I could just write it up as "unable to determine" but if there were a quick easy to check it I would like to know. Thats all.
  4. M. I will always admit when I am wrong and I think this is one of those times. I see your point and I regress. Thank you so much for your insight. I will make the appropriate changes. Damned hard headed aren’t I?
  5. Here is the deal, Mike I Like you. I admire your knowlege and ability, You obviously know your stuff and I am not debating that. However I am going to have to agree to disagree. I was taught in school that copper is wrong. In my reporting software it says it is wrong. Like a said a copule of days ago I think it is a regional thing. I guess it boils down to Better safe than sorry. I will not take the copper industries word for it. To me that seems silly. (No! dont use our product!!!) I will continue to write this up in my reports and let the client make the final decision. One team... One fight.
  6. As far as the Hydrogen Sulfide, Natural gas is composed of one part Methane and four parts Hydrogen. Now the aditive mercaptan is produced with mostly sulfide. Now im not chemist but I think with 4 parts Hydrogen and Several sulfides, your bound to end up with Hydrogen Sulfide... But I may be wrong. It's happened before...
  7. I hate to keep changing the subject back to the original topic but... I did a little checking and according to a post on codecheck.com by Redwood Kardon, The writer of the 'Code check" series He says, And I quote: "UPC 1210.1 does not list copper as an acceptable material for gas piping. Other codes don't have this restriction but you have to check with the supplying utility. Sulfides in odorants can deteriate copper. Codes aside, you should check with the utility to find out about the composition of their gas and its effect on the copper."
  8. I saw one a couple of months back installed in someones basement. Convienient because you dont have to go out in the cold to load it. It really looked like a good setup. They had used an existing chimney and piped the exhaust there. The stove had a blower, on a thremostat, connected to the heat exchanger and was using the existing ducting. It also had a lever to switch heat sources at the main trunk. Since it was a split level home, he kept the dried wood in his garage. so he never had to go outside. Free heat indeed.
  9. Speaking of TYCO, They are in trouble for something, are they not? Seems like I heard they got busted for something here recently.
  10. I think the director of the local IBEW (union) sent me that info. I had picked his brain a number of months back about the copalum connects. I assume he believes in the lugs enough to have sent them to me. That says something.
  11. spell check is for wussies!!! sorry, I'll try harder next time.
  12. All the information you could ever need on Aluminum wiring methods. http://www.inspect-ny.com/aluminum/twistcpsc.htm At the top of the page is a letter that I was refering to when I mistakenly said U/L. just follow the links
  13. I spoke too soon, it is not Undrewriters lab, it was the U.s. Consumer Product Safety Commision. Here is what I have. http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/516.pdf I'm pretty sure I have something from U/L also. I'll keep digging.
  14. Actually I have a release from U/L stating that the purple twist on's are not acceptable. But amazingly enough I got this in my email yesterday. I dont even know who sent it to me... It is a new system for joining copper and aluminum. Enjoy Here
  15. Once again... "Sometimes the less you say now... The laess you have to repent for later....
  16. Oh, I've got one of those volt stick things that looks like a pen and lights up and beeps and stuff!!! I agree they are great for detecting K&T, current and they are even good for detecting rev. polarity, unfortunatly the problem I run into is the water heater, furnace, cook stove, oven and A/C are all on 30 Amp breakers... No joke I ran into this Thursday... I was thinking a tracer might come in mighty handy. P.S. In the tool world we call those A/C detectors, volt stick brings to mind an image of a long cane with aligator clamps at both ends
  17. I hate to say this... but every time I look for really good reference material for things "they" never taught me, I have to turn to ITA or Carson Dunlap... I think I may have made the wrong decision in schools... I just may have to attend another school! Sorry Roy.
  18. -H- Thank you so much! I will definatly pick this up!
  19. Enter stupid question... What is a volt stick?
  20. Thank you so much for the insight!!! Electrical is bye far my weekest area. Can anyone recommend a really good book for me?
  21. All we use is concrete. I have never seen a uv, or fiberglass pad... ever! I did not know that you were supposed to attach the unit to the pad either, seems to me this would have a higher likeleyhood of causing more damage to the unit versus a free standing application. The silicone makes good sense as it could act as a shock absorber as well as an adhesive. So what is the general concensis?
  22. So lately I've been running into a lot of all electric homes where the panels are not labeled. I was wondering if a tick tracer would be a good investment in tracing down water heaters, and A/C units to see if properly amped. Do you have one? if so do you recommend one?
  23. Ok, but here's my problem when I plug it in and press the button, the tester reads open ground and nothing happens. However the electrician swears it's protected. I got the idea from a picture of some inspector with the adaptor on his tester. Thats the only possible reason I could come up with. P.S Ground lift adapters are every professional soundman's best friend...I have been doing sound for around 15 years and they are great for removing annoying hums from your mix.
  24. Many SoP's Do not require you to inspect areas of the home if the inspector feels it is unsafe. Poison Ivy... Unsafe. end of story.
  25. I saw a 2/0 ground wire on an elect. Furnace the other day... Talk about overkill, I guess they just had some left over from the ground rod connection.
