  1. Copper is not suitable for gas applications due to the additives (Hydrogen sulfide I believe) is added to the gas. the gas will pit the copper and eventually produce pinholes in the line. only a lined flex tube or black iron is acceptable. I always write this up. This may be a regional thing though...better safe than sorry.
  2. I have a really good tech sheet from HEIL on this very subject(stinky water). I'll see if I can find it. Should'nt the TPR valve open to release the compressed gasses first? given it is operating properly of course...
  3. I have an Ideal GFI / AFI tester. If I test a GFI that is installed on an older 2 wire system, it will not trip. After speaking with an electrician about this he says the outlet is still protected, however the tester won't trip the breaker because of the neutral. So... Would the GFCI trip if I placed a ground lift adapter on it?
  4. I inspected a home last week where the top of the panel and the main breaker were at least 8 feet off of the ground. I am 6' tall and had to break out the Little Giant to inspect the panel. Needless to say I wrote it up as a safety hazard. Lucky for me the homowner was an electrician. Which brings me to my next question... If you install a stoop or step in front of the panel to reach it, does this violate the 3' rule?
  5. I do not agree with branding. Who is to say that an ASHI inspector is any better than anyone else. So you have to completer 250 inspections before you are a full member? So at inspection 251 do you become a better inspector? All ASHI members have to take 2 tests... So what I had to take several tests to get into NACHI, not to mention to graduate from school. Whatever happened to fair marketing? Now not only do we have to deal with the "Easy" inspectors, but now we have to deal with the political hierarchy from our fellow good inspectors? I am a damned good inspector and agents HATE me, so much so that i'm seriously considering going 100% independant. I support NACHI, My organization actually respects it's members and makes an honest effort to teach us and give unlimited support. I have been a member of other lesser orgs., and learned my lesson.
  6. I had a Supra key once, It didnt work on ony houses though, Only my Toyota Supra, and occasionally my buddys camry if he locked himself out. Man I miss that car, It was dangerously fast. I got it to 160 in 5th (6 speed) and shut it down.
  7. I've been looking for one also. If anyone has one, I am also looking for a good (cheap)Commercial checklist since I only do about 10% commercial I dont want to spend all the money.
  8. Ok. I will say this, in school they taught us that the 2-4 is the "proper" way of testing the door however my instructor continued on to tell us "but after buying your 10th or 11th garage door you will decide to use your hands". Proper or improper I see it as more of a sefety concern, last time I checked a wood 2-4 is slightly more rigid than your average 2-4 year old. I see it as a matter of safety rather than principal. If I cant stop it with my hands it's dangerous. I have never EVER had a client argue with me on this point. well once... until I told him to lay down under the door, if he lived thru it I guess I'll let it go. Right or wrong I choose common sense.
