1) If you wire a GFCI without a ground wire and test it with a GFCI tester will it trip the outlet? 2) What does it mean when you plug an outlet tester into a GFCI outlet and it shows that it is wired correctly, but when you test the GFCI (with the button on the tester) it shows that it has reversed polarity?

i dont really see the need either, but my boss does... Thats why it smells!

I did about half of the AT actually, and yea thats where it came from, listen Terence, i dont have any of these problems you think i have, i have an awesome family, im married, i have a kid i love to death, my business is thriving, to be honest, i have nothing to hide, nothing to bitch about at all. If i give you my last name, your gonna do "who knows what" with it... Why the hell do you care so much? Im really not here to socialize, there are other stupid sites out there for that if your into it. I see this place as a place to learn and someday teach hopefully. I never lie to clients about what i know, and what i dont know. To be quite honest, when there is something that i dont know, i tell them that i have an excellent source of information at my finger tips (HERE) and that i will do everything in my power to get any answers that i can. Maybe someday, hopefully, ill get to the point where ill be doing more answering than asking here, but im not there yet. I take my job very seriously, as im sure everyone else here does as well. Cory... Now does that really make that much of a difference?

Ive done about 220 inspections now and saw something today again that i havent seen before. I figured out how it works i think but i just wanted to verify and ask a few questions. The house was 50 years old, the seller was an HVAC guy. It had a central air system with an air handler in the attic, and a Weil McLain boiler in a closet (with an indirect water heater in a closet in a different part of the house). The house was on a slab, so all the HVAC plumbing went to the attic and down into these utility closets. When i got to the house, i started looking for radiators... none to be found. So i started thinking it may be a radiant system, but it wasnt. It was sending hot water from the boiler to the air handler and it was hot air heat. Does this use the same coil some how? How does this work and is it common in other parts of the country? Im in PA. I have some pictures, but the attic where the air handler was was pretty full, so i dont know how much will be seen. I did eventually find a hot water pipe entering the back of the air handler though.

I hope im not offending anyone too much by not using my real name, does it really matter? Ive become used to not using my real name online, i guess i dont see the benifit in it, only bad could come from it. I really have nothing to hide, im a pretty straight up guy. I guess part of it is that im not particularly "proud" that as a new inspector i have to ask so many questions. It seems that most of you guys on here have been in business MUCH longer than I have, I really do appreciate all the help.

So, are we here to brag about how we (you) have spent our entire lives learning everything there is to know about everything, or is this a place to learn? This site has been very helpful to me, i wish i had been born with all of this knowledge but this is a process for me and all other young inspectors out there. I hope you feel better now terence. Do you drive a really big truck?

This was in a condo i did today, the electric furnace was installed horrizontile in the top of a closet, and the compressor was in a closet on the balcony. The condo was built 37 years ago. Both manufactured by DNP Company (division of Carrier), Furnace: Serial # 38B 48562 Model#24AVHFC-108 Compressor: Serial #4C 14241 Model#241WC-509K Any idea what the date of manufacture are, they both looked old, lots of corrosion. Im sorry but i dont have anymore pictures. The clean out at the bottom of the unit was connected to one of the copper pipes going down the side of the BW tank. I told the buyers that i had never seen a hookup like this and that they should hire a plumber/HVAC for further evaluation. Next time ill take more pictures. Thanks guys.

What might those issues be?

So is that different than indirect water heater? In this setup the water that the bradford white tank is holding actually comes from the boiler, and not just heats the water that is in the tank?
