cbass
I encountered a house today with a 200 amp service line and meter, installed to a 150 amp panel. The panel was original at 40 years of age, the service line was obviously newer. Is there any "danger" to this or is there just a higher likelihood of tripping the main breaker? The panel is going to be replaced for other various reasons, i am just wondering. Thanks
Mark P
What was the rating of the main disconnect? If the panel was only rated for 150 amps and it was being used with 200 amp service, I would think it is a safety concern.
cbass
The main disconnect was 150 amp.
Brandon Whitmore
If the service disconnect is rated at 150 amps, but you have a 4/0 al, or 2/0 cu, there is no issue. It's only an issue if you have a wire that is too small. Would you be concerned with a 15 amp circuit with a 12 gauge wire? Same thing.
