What were they thinking?

The attic scuttle in this four year old home was located in the master bedroom closet, one problem, they put it right next to a roof truss. No way in hell for someone of my "stature" to make entrance. Photos were tough to take of this, hopefully you can get an idea.

Try going up the ladder backwards. Gets me into lots of tight spaces.

Is that just staples holding the truss members in place?
