Ralph Morrison
Are there any Ohio codes requirements for installing a sump pump and pit on the exterior of the foundation wall vs. interior installation?
Mike Lamb
It is probably not a sump pit but a sewage ejector pit to prevent sewage back-up in the basement. I don't know about the code compliance but I think they are better off outside. At least, that is where I usually see them.

kurt
I have a basement drain tile guru that swears putting them outside is the best option. This guy is the wizard of fixing that which other folks completely screw up. Outside sump pits aren't unheard of; maybe uncommon, but if installed correctly, they are better than interior imho.
