jnlombard
Hi, Is there any argument to having a panel, and main breaker, rated much higher than the supply from the HYDRO company? eg cables from Hydro size what commonly carries say 100A spliced at the mast into say 200A rated size cables. This means that there are circuits total more than what seems to come from the Hydro (old building - little control and lax rules applied in this area)
Richard Moore
If you are talking about the wire sizes at an overhead service drop from the utility pole, then conductors in free air have, very roughly, about twice the amperage rating that we HI's use for the service feed to the panel. The utility company has it's own rules that might even surpass that. It's all about heat dissipation. Anyway, quite normal to see thinner wires connected to thicker SECs entering the masthead.
