CHI
Saw this on a 1912 home today. It appeared to be asphalt based product with a brick pattern. Any idea what to call it, other than old damaged everywhere? Click to Enlarge 71.46 KB Click to Enlarge 72.71 KB

waynesoper
not much different than asphalt roofing but lasts longer due to the pitch, haha.
kurt
Tom's right. I've called it insulbrick. It's like a celotex board imprinted with a pattern and some granule. It "works" largely due to the underlying siding providing the moisture barrier. Sort of an early rainscreen wall effect. It's always beat to hell around any fenestration, and there's usually chunks falling off in several locations.
CHI
Thanks for the input. It was in good shape except for the damaged and missing pieces. What reamined was pretty sound. Was very much like composition roofing material and is lasting a long time.....thanks Wayne.
Bill Kibbel
The correct spelling is Inselbrick®. We discussed this before here: https://www.inspectorsjournal.com/forum ... IC_ID=4873 Click to Enlarge 49.86 KB
