  1. HUH? If it's wired properly, anything thatthe GFI is feeding with shut down if the GFI is tripped.
  2. If water intrusion is a problem and the crack is accessable I recommend sealing the crack with Hydrophobic Polyurethane. I've seen this stuff in action and watched serious water leaks stop before my eyes! It's so much easier, faster and less expensive than digging up the foundation. Image Insert: 36.83 KB
  3. What I'm getting from this is that it is the same as purchasing a tool that allows you to inspect something above "the call of duty". Something like IR cameras. We are not expected to use them, but if we do, we are responsible for the findings... or lack of findings. But, how about if you do not create a dedicated section? Would there be a problem flagging anything in any catagory as a health/safety issue?
  4. That how my hair got curly... no.

  7. Hi John, I'm fairly new at this game and I don't have as much experience writing reports as some of the others. I started reading yours and reading the comments in the hopes of improving my own. A few things did catch my eye, I'll comment on some. Here goes... 1. When reading your report and finding items "of interest", I had to keep scrolling to the top of the page to see where I was. I would prefer to either have the lines be marked "3.10" to denote page 3, line 10, or 54 (should that be the line), to denote the 54th line of the report. 2. At 3.06 (page 3, line 06), you have occupied/time... why are these together? I would prefer to see; 3.06 - Inspection start time - 9:00 a.m. 3.07 - Inspection completion time - 11:45 a.m. 3.08 - Building status - Occupied 3. At 4.07 - Structural walls - concrete/block, Were they? Or are you referring to the foundation walls? At 4.04, you state they are wood frame. 4. At 4.09, although I agree that windows provide ventilation, so do other things too. I feel that windows deserve a "section" by themselves. To be continued...

Les, I grew up around horses and in my youth I dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. I did get as far a becoming a horse dentist. I now "pipedream" of raising either miniature horses or pullng horses (Clydes, Belgiums, etc.). Talk about oppisite extremes! If I could draw a picture of my "dreamhome", a place like that would be it.
  9. Heating System; Flu pipe is disconnected at the heating unit. Questionable installation materials. Have a qualified heating technician make necessary repairs. Note: Since this is a serious health/safety issue, I notified the homeowner, and shut down the system.
  10. I'm scaring me. I don't know how I missed that. As Chad calls it... a brain fart. I was going to the Watts site. But I just found the link and faxed in the form. See you guys there. That in itself is worth the trip!
  11. I went to the site a couple of hours ago, but didn't see how to sign up. I called and left them a telephone message.

I'm glad everyone is enjoying knots. When I was a kid, I used to spend countless hours untangling balls of fishing line. I was ahead of my time... recycling. Hey Les, that farm in the picture really looks like a really kool place.
  13. OK, so what I am getting from this is that this panel is the main panel and that it means nothing that the GEC is connected at the meterpan. But, if that is the case, shouldn't the main panel be bonded back to the meterpan, where the GEC is?
  14. If it were a leak, isn't it a coincidence how it covered the joint exactly how the flux would while being wiped with a brush during sweating? I believe it's from the flux, especially since every joint is similar?
  15. So if it is considered a "main" panel, shouldn't it have an earthen ground? If the earthen ground in the meter pan is ok, doesn't the panel have t o be at least bonded and or grounded back to the meter pan/to where the earthen ground is? If not, shouldn't the grounds and neutrals be isolated? and even if they are isolated, where do the grounds terminate?
  16. I think it just boils down to workmanship.
  17. I've always thought it was due to not cleaning the pipe after sweating them together ... from the flux. As far as a future leak, I don't remember ever seeing any that have rotted out. I wonder if it's a reaction of the copper to the flux, or a reaction of the flux to the copper?
  18. In this situation, shouldn't the main then be treated as a sub-panel. With isolated neutral and ground bars? If using bx or emt the material itself acts as a grounding agent, where would one connect the ground conductor when using Romex, if not at isolated bars?

    I'm glad you enjoyed it.
  20. Improper sealing and sealants @ penetrations.
  21. I would primarily include a sump pump in the plumbing section... and anywhere else it is relevant.

I came across this and thought it might be fun and come in handy. http://www.animatedknots.com
  23. One of the first things that is taught to a certified EIFS inspector is that manufacturer's installation instructions are to be followed at all times. Anytime someone suggests to do it differently, approval in writing must be obtained from the manufacturer. Not the applicator, not even the supplier. In most cases, when a system fails, it is due to improper installation. Usually flashing/sealing
  24. If anybody has a used, but not abused Tramex WWD for sale, please contact me. inspector2314@aol.com Thank you.
  25. I like Jim's idea the best, at least whatever I don't give out, I can use myself. How does the expression go? You can beat a woman, you can beat a dog, but you can't beat a b_ _ _ j _ _.
