  1. Jeez, I didn't even catch it Rich. Bet the rest of you heard a really loud woosh as that flew right over my pointy widdle head. OT - OF!!! M.
  2. Hi All, I hope some of you watched, or are watching, Carrier on PBS tonight. I just watched the first segment and the second is just starting. Man, I'm a ground pounder, but this show makes one pretty damned proud of the men and women in our Navy. If you don't watch it, you're missing a huge opportunity to learn something about the grit that is America. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  3. Just keep your ear to the ground about home inspector stuff, and stuff that could impact home inspectors, that's going on in your state and let us know about it. Pretty simple really. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  4. Hi Rick, The avatar menu is in your profile. If you want to post a picture of yourself as your avatar, make a post to the practice forum and place the picture in the post. Then right-click the photo, choose "copy shortcut" and then paste that into the slot for the avatar url in your profile. Make sure the picture is small - about 125 by 125 pixels. Save your changes and you're there. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  5. Hi, It looks like GIL hasn't set up his subscriptions correctly and he's probably not getting those queries. I shot him an email asking him to check in. OT - OF!!! M.
  6. Hi Jodi, I snagged this off the ASHI site (I really need to get a place here and post summaries of them here as well). North Dakota Registration (HB 1507 enacted in 2005) states the requirements for home inspector registration and license renewal procedures. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have submitted proof of errors and omissions insurance coverage in the amount of $100,000, and have paid a $200 fee. The law exempts applicants that perform home inspections for residential buildings located outside the corporate limits of any city or located in a city with a population under three thousand from being required to carry errors and omissions insurance in the amount of $100,000. The bill provides a penalty for home inspectors that fail to register, making any individual that provides a home inspection without registration guilty of a class B misdemeanor. Also states that an applicant shall submit proof of completion of an examination offered by the American Society of Home Inspectors, the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors, the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors, the National Association of Home Inspectors, or the International Code Council. For more information, including registration forms, go to the Home Inspector page at the North Dakota Secretary of State Web site or call 701-328-2900 or e-mail sos@state.nd.us. Wanna be our official North Dakota TIJ Reporter and keep us all informed about all of the exciting developments with home inspections in North Dakota? OT - OF!!! M.
  7. Or a couple of peyote buttons. OT - OF!!! M.
  8. Hi, I with you'd taken an establishing shot of that panel so that I could see the whole thing. However, I see a grounding conductor, a grounded (neutral) conductor, and two hots. It small like a sub-panel but it's configured like a main panel with the neutral bar grounded and bonded. Are you in an apartment building with a main disconnect elsewhere? If so, you're right and it's all dicked up. If that's a main panel and disconnect it's fine. Now, to the real issue - get rid of that friggin' fire-trap of an FPE Stab-Lok panel !!! Do not wait, don't pass go, just do it. When your electrician does that, he'll straighten out the rest of the mess. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  9. Some interesting reading in this article for those curious about the claims made by tankless water heater manufacturers. Enjoy, ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  10. Here's a pretty good article about grounding and bonding that's written by a fellow that I'm sure Mr. Electric will know.
  11. Curse you, Brown! OT - OF!!! M.
  12. That pipe is forming a really, big trap is all. OT - OF!!! M.
  13. Looking for CAD details for how SIPS panels are supposed to be joined together, or how to properly attach trusses to walls? APA has a whole library of beautifully drawn CAD details; all for free.
  14. Inspectors should probably become familiar with the performance characteristics of this new wrap which is rated for up to six months of exposure to the weather. OT - OF!!! M.
  15. Inspectors who're interested in learning more about the science behind vapor diffusion and vapor drive will appreciate this article. I can see the day coming, though, when an inspector will make the wrong call after seeing this liquid-applied vapor barrier and find himself in an embarrassing pickle. Enjoy.
  16. Look at Type Q116.
  17. This is kind of kewl! [utube] [/utube]
  18. Here's a 10-question quiz on codes put together by Prof. Paul Fisette, UMass Amherst. It's based on the IRC. Take it and see how you stack up. No cheating now; this isn't an open-book quiz, so put your code book away. [] Click Here!
  19. Hi Jim, Did you check out the link that John Ghent posted above? It looks like some of those were designed to run DC loads and others to run AC loads. OT - OF!!! M.
  20. Hey folks, anyone who's uploading pics and is on XP can go to Powertoys for Window and download a free image resizer there. It's easy; hell, even I was able to do it. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  21. Ah, what the hell, I think I'll leave it. I think we've had a grand total of about 2 posts inquiring about these systems over the past six years. It's not like TIJ is going to miss out on a ton of revenue due to him dropping one ad in here free. After all, it'll make it easier for folks to find information about them when they need it. Kamil, you should post a link to the links library on the menu bar above. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  22. You two need a dose of aw shucks. Image Insert: 55.82 KB Image Insert: 67.66 KB OT - OF!!! [:-devil] M.
  23. Note to Mike B.: Is there a way to make Kurt's avatar fart? OT - OF!!! M.
  24. Hi All, I hadn't posted this in a while. I thought it would be a good idea to re-post it as food for thought. Even if one doesn't believe in the reasons why our government has us overseas, one should at least understand that these young men and women honor every one of us when, regardless of their own convictions, they obey orders and go into harm's way in our name. For our Canadian brothers with kin in the Canadian forces who are in Afghanistan, this just as easily applies to your own forces. [utube] [/utube] The next time you're walking through an airport and you see a group of serviceman and women in uniform on their way home on furlough, please go up to them and thank them for their service to our country. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike

    What is this?

That actually makes sense to me. I was staring at that thing thinking that it might be to coil a hose up on but then I noticed that it was only a few courses off the ground. OT - OF!!! M.
