Scottpat
I need some help on where I can find some details, information, restrictions, etc on a brick latticework fence or screen. Lets say it surrounds a patio on three sides to screen and provide privacy. It is around 54" in height and 8' in length. It is has no reinforcing steel or supports other than four brick columns in each corner, that I'm pretty sure have no steel in them. I'm looking for any information that relates to construction restrictions or guidelines for such a structure. Les
how about just simple restriction on exposed core? moisture. I would likely stress drainage. structure is going to be difficult, especially lateral loads. good luck!
Jim Baird
Serpentine brick walls, supposedly designed by Thomas Jefferson, stand without reinforcement only one wythe thick if they are of the right frequency and amplitude. I have seen these at formal gardens at UVA and at UGA.
kurt
The old walls used lime putty, and that is the magic. TJ had the math right, but he also had the materials right.
