The Honest Handyman
I have a Wesco electric furnace. I have recently inspected it and everything is working correctly. I did notice that one of the heat strips glows brighter than the other strips. I am wondering if replacing all the heat strips would improve the efficiency or performance of the furnace. I tested the resistance of the wires and they all are about the same. Thanks, Jack
Jim Katen
The coils are roughly 100% efficient. There would be no benefit to replacing them. The brighter coil is probably wired by itself while the others are a pair or pairs. You might try measuring the amp draw at each coil when they're all on.
