  1. Thanks guys!
  2. Polyiso Thermal Gard foam sheathing on interior basement. It's clearly labeled "combustible". Does this emit a toxic gas when burned? I've seen it used on exterior but is it acceptable for interior? Click to Enlarge 28.72 KB Click to Enlarge 51.58 KB
  3. Will it make my investment properties built in the 80's worth more?
  4. I'm also using HomeReport and not too happy with it. Anyone using Palm-Tech?
  5. I'm not really up on all the new techniques but my grand daddy was a plasterer and I was a commercial metal lather for 30 years. We lathed over many, many concrete walls with expanded metal lath. The plasterers would cover that with 1/2" mud. Seemed to work pretty good.
  6. For info on plaster TSIB.org is a good resource.
  7. Looks like the brown coat (2nd) to me.
  8. The first time I spoke to the RE assoc, I said that I used the canisters. They all looked at me like I was an idiot (because I was). I sucked it up and bought a Sun Nuclear 1028.
  9. I always have a paper report with me for back up.
  10. I thought I could run it on my droid but ended up buying an IPad.
  11. I first saw terra cotta block in the early 80's while remodeling the original Broadway store building in Los Angeles. It was used for fireproofing around the old riveted beams. I had to knock some of it off to weld stickers to the beams and found a rat fully intact. There were hoof prints in the concrete sub floors from the mules that were used on the job. Very interesting indeed.
  12. Darrin, Is the bank asking for this info?
  13. Thanks Jim. Was there a specific era it was used? Was/is it common. Any good as an insulator?
  14. Click to Enlarge 54.04 KB What kind of insulation is this, Shredded wheat? Seriously, I don't know.
  15. Does anyone advertise in their local home buyers magazine? Is it worth it? I just inquired with a local magazine. For a one year contract it would cost $100 a month. $125 a month if partial year. Maybe I could just advertise during the summer.
  16. You guys have street names, lucky. I got 64 miles up hwy 87 turn on dirt road for 5 miles, turn left at old barn...... Nolan, You know what I'm talking about. You Plentywooder.
  17. It looks like it was chemically etched. I originally thought a weedeater got out of control. I believe it is fiberboard. @ Erby, I took the photo before I got up from my nap.
  18. Click to Enlarge 58.92 KB Has anyone seen damage like this before? It's just on this one side and level. Any thought on siding manufacturer? p.s. I don't know why my photos go in sideways.
  19. When I was in France I got to see those cool Turkish toilets. Lean against the wall and poop in a hole in the floor. Oh yeah, no partitions either [:-yuck].
  20. It may prevent sewer gases from entering the home but in my humble opinion it doesn't "flush" the drain as a p-trap is supposed to do. I bet they clog fairly easily.
  21. Maybe that agent should revisit their "Realtor" code of ethics.
  22. Is there any other reason for this other than rusting iron within the concrete? Click to Enlarge 74.9 KB
  23. Could it be "Tex-cote"? Is it like a rubber coating? It was supposed to be better than paint. Tex-cote was sprayed on every school bungalow in So Cal that I went to (1960's-70's) and everyone peeled off. I don't know why but it was all the same color too, pale puke pink. Incredibly they are still in business.
  24. The ring should be flush with the finish floor. I would not caulk the bottom so if there ever is another leak you might catch it sooner.
  25. Years ago when I was a plumbers helper we would use a plain wax ring on bottom and one with the plastic cone on the top. Was there a new floor installed over the old leaving a gap? Make sure the ring is holding the bolts well. Wobble? What's wrong with the floor?
