  1. That is a repaired section of block foundation. However, The house was constructed late 40's/early 50's (Post WWII). I found that a little odd, because houses built around that time usually have Galv/Cast for drains. At least around. Frank
  2. The Illini's offense must have those offensive bursts when I wasn't watching[}] I'm pulling for Tenn also, however they are playing in Pasaedena... Frank
  3. I see a few Lead Drum Traps around here, but just for tubs. I don't recall seeing a drum trap for sinks. I have only been inspecting for a little over 2 years, but I've always recommended replacing drum traps, even if there is good flow for the drain. This lead drum is installed upside down, no signs of leakage, satisfactory drain flow, but I made a recommendation to change to a p-trap. Image Insert: 142.54 KB Kind of sidetracking here; but I also see a lot of lead closet bends around here. Frank
  4. The #20 Fighting Illini, didn't put up much of a fight against #4 Missouri. In fact the Big Ten Conference didn't look that good this weekend. Except Wisconsin, Penn St, Minn, and those Wildcats, from Kurt's area. Frank
  5. Do you mean their vents are connected together? Do they offer high efficiency water heaters to rent? $800 seems high to connect B-Vent, unless all your vents are single wall through out the house. Frank
  6. I'm 6'5", and use Tyvec or Proshield Coveralls. I wear 3XL, and usually throw them away after an inspection. Right now I order them through Northern Safety. I found them to be a good price and very easy to reorder things once I set up an account. Northern Safety Co., Inc. Frank
  7. I do believe the more Hip & Modern phrase is: "We'll smoke 2 joints before we smoke 2 joints, then we'll smoke 2 more..." I dunno know, I get hungry and tired enough without any outside help. Frank
  8. Alright John, times up. What did he say? Frank
  9. Could be some kind of cross connection in the hall bath. Frank
  10. As for the seams, what did the underside of the sheathing look like? It might be fatigue or moisture damage to the sheathing. It looks like rafters/roof joists with sheathing sagging between them. (Just an idea.) Frank
  11. Coping. Terra Cotta or Clay Tile Frank
  12. I've never seen this before, it was all over this attic (the brown stuff). Some under newer fiberglass. The house is early 1950's. Thanks, Frank Image Insert: 181.4 KB Image Insert: 149.58 KB
  13. Is that a French Drain??? [:-eyebrow Frank

    Valley Overlap

Sorry, I was using an old standby laptop, not use to it anymore. Thanks for the help, it is a very bad job all around. The ridge cap is so uneven and crooked, it made me dizzy just looking at it. Frank
  15. Try leaning over to take off the cover. Talk about back spasms... Frank
  16. OK, this might seem senseless, but I think something is wrong, just going on my intuition. Why do a few shingles have so much exposure on this overlap? Are they overlapped too much. Is this a non-issue? Poor workmanship maybe? Frank Image Insert: 90.23 KB Image Insert: 79.43 KB Image Insert: 59.16 KB Image Insert: 53.85 KB
  17. Nope... 60 year old house. Frank
  18. First of all what is the correct term for this "sleeve"? Could it be from original heat source? There is a mid-efficiency furnace there now, and B-Vent runs up through this. I think it is cement base, it couldn't be gypsum, or could it? And I know they use to add asbestos to cement products especially for industrial applications. 19. So, I know this doesn't qualify for a working space, but how close can a panel be to a kitchen sink? Image Insert: 83.28 KB Image Insert: 87.02 KB
  20. I've never heard of a "TY" before. Do you mean Sanitary Tee, or Wye-45 Combo? When I see TY I think Beanie Babies. Frank
  21. I see this arrangement in the condos, and apartments around here. They usually have a steel wall plate on the side wall. I think one manufacturer calls it a "Grease Guard", or "Grease Splash Guard", or something like that. Frank
  22. Wow, thanks for the fast responses, especially over a holiday weekend. This is the first time I've seen this residue. This is a "utility room" which is outside of the house and drywalled but most likely uninsulated. Very rare for this area, so maybe cold weather in this room might be attributed to it. It is 4 inch single wall right there, and connected into a 5 inch B-Vent which connects the WH vent. There is some rust on the B-Vent right after the connection of the WH vent. Image Insert: 69.33 KB
  23. What is this powdery substance, that is coming out of these elbows of a mid-efficiency furnace? There is none on top of the furnace or water heater (located right by the furnace) . Only on these elbows. Any ideas? Frank Image Insert: 71.28 KB Image Insert: 120.2 KB
  24. I have a friend who suspected their house got struck by lightning this weekend. A bedroom AFCI breaker was tripped, the A/C didn't work, the garage door opener didn't work, and his router for his computer didn't work. A/C didn't work because it knocked out the programmable T-Stat. Liftmaster garage door opener has a big electronic board in it. And the router has electronics in it. Couldn't find any damage from a direct strike. I strongly believe a surge came through his SEC and did this damage, especially with the tripped AFCI breaker. However, if lightning struck close to this house, is it possible that there could be enough EMF or Static Energy (or something along those lines), to knock out these electronics? Frank

Frame for a billboard??? Whatever it is, it looks like it has a flashing boot of some kind. Frank
